Community Change Starts with Me

Funded by Islamic Relief Canada, we launched 8 educational, community-building workshops focused on well-being, mental health, and supporting ourselves and our families during Covid-19. Some workshops included:

Sharing Amal

The Amal Center offered 3 parenting modules designed for mothers, by mothers, titled Sharing Amal. Through interactive learning in intimate group settings, participants had the chance to have honest conversations about kids, cultures, and communities.
The 3 modules were:

  1. Parenting Skills for Raising Responsible & Happy Kids

  2. The S-word: When and How to Talk to Your Kids about Sex

  3. Healing the Feeling

Café chez Amal: Demystifying the DYP

Caseworker Ghada Mohamed hosted a series of initimate, informal discussions with mothers who wanted to learn more about youth protection services in Montreal.

Dialogue sessions

Following the launch of our Listener's toolkit, we conducted dialogue sessions among two Listener communities in Montreal (Amal’s Muslim community plus Concordia University members) to asses their different needs. This helped us to later develop workshops and provide them with tools and resources to support them.
