Volunteer Opportunities

A. Shelter Project

The aim of the shelter project is to reach out to sisters that have fallen victim to conjugal violence or some other form of abuse and have as a result ended up in a women’s shelter.

The objectives of this project include:

  1. To establish a women’s shelter
  2. To improve relationships with existing Montreal women shelters and benefit from their valuable experiences.
  3. To sensitize various Montreal shelters about the specific needs of Muslim women through workshops, educative materials, etc.
  4. To offer services to Muslim women in existing Montreal shelters (translation, halal meat, care baskets, etc.)
  5. To provide follow-up and support to Muslim women leaving shelters.



B. Youth Group Project

The aim of the youth group is to provide community guidance to our muslim youth.

The objectives of this project include:

  1. To organize entertaining clubs/social gatherings for youth at the center or elsewhere.
  2. To educate the youth about the basic principles of Islam.
  3. To find appropriate “big brothers/big sisters” for Muslim youth requiring role models.

As a volunteer in this project, you might be required to:

  1. Help in the Girls’ Youth Club that takes place twice a month for girls aged 8-15yrs.
  2. Participate in the “Big Brother-Big sister” program.
  3. Organize your own youth activities.



C. Food Basket Program

One of the ways that AMAL helps women and their families is through a monthly food basket program.

As a volunteer in this program, you might be required to:

  1. Help with putting together and delivering foodbaskets



D. Fundraising Team

This team is involved in raising the funds required to support AMAL’s short-term and long-term objectives.

As a volunteer in this team, you might be required to:

  1. Organize AMAL’s annual fundraising event (lecture/dinner, bazaar, etc).
  2. Find new ways to raise funds (ex. chocolate selling, donation boxes etc).



E. Advertising Team

The job of this team is to ensure that events organized by AMAL are well advertised within the Montreal community.

As a volunteer in this team, you might be required to:

  1. Set-up a resource list of community contacts.
  2. Ensure that fliers are distributed at various community centers, universities, shops, etc.
